BUMMER BUSTER SINGLE SPEED CHALLENGE

SUNDAY DECEMBER 10 2023

Event Details:

When: Sunday, December 10th. All registration will happen on-site, no online registration required. Sign-in begins at 9:00am, the ride begins at 10:00 am. There is no mandatory cost to participate, but we will be accepting donations if you would like to help us cover the costs of putting on the event, cash or Venmo. No pressure though. We do ask that everyone bring snacks and drinks to share, we’re doing it potluck style! Lake McMurtry has a $6 entry fee, and all attendees MUST purchase their own day pass (unless you have an annual pass already)

Where: Lake McMurtry WEST Pavilion located at 30285 Bronco Curve, Stillwater, OK 74075

What: This event is a self-supported endurance trail and gravel ride designed specifically for single speeders. Ride as much or as little as you want, but the goal here is to push your boundaries! If your bike isn’t singlespeed and you would like to worship the One True Gear, call District Bicycles at 405-372-7319 and they will help you find a solution!

Why: Single Speeding is fun and everyone should try it! The Bummer Buster events exist specifically to help riders develop new skills, try new things and push their personal boundaries. We wanted to create a gathering place for cyclists who may not feel connected to traditional bike racing culture (it’s cool, we don’t either).

There will be two distance options for MTB trails and two distance options for gravel.

For MTB, the options are “The Big Bummer” 27 mile technical XC course, or “The Little Bummer” 7 mile XC course. (Both courses are on well-marked trails, and we will place additional course markings at any confusing intersections)

For those familiar with our trails at Lake McMurtry, The Big Bummer course will be BLUE>GREEN>RED>YELLOW>RED>GREEN>BLUE. There is a water spigot at the EAST side pavilion to refill bottles if needed before heading back towards the West side. The Little Bummer will be the Blue trail. Riders can ride any amount of trail that they want, just try to push your boundaries a little, it’s good for you!

For Gravel, the options are “The Bummer Grinder” 37 mile gravel route and “The Bummer Grinder Jr.” 17 mile gravel route. Hit those links to be magically transported to the gps files.

Can I ride even if I don’t have a singlespeed? Yes! This event is intended to be a personal challenge, but we understand that not every rider has a singlespeed bike, and we want EVERYONE to be able to ride if they would like to. However, we encourage you to try picking a single gear and not shifting your entire ride, it’s fun and challenging! We will have mechanics on hand the morning of the event who can help you lock your gears if you want to try to keep yourself honest, but no pressure.

THIS IS A FULLY SELF-SUPPORTED EVENT, BE PREPARED TO TAKE CARE OF YOURSELF, THERE WILL BE NO SAG AVAILABLE!
